It's important to keep up to date on the strollers, highchairs, and baby toys among other baby products that fail safety testing requirements or have been reported as causing harm to infants.
One source to keep up-to-date on baby product recalls is by following both local and national media. Sometimes the recall of infant or children toys can become a national story reported all over the media. For instance, a few years ago, there were issues with the paint used in toys made in China. The media covered the story intensely.
Sometimes, the story isn't that easy to find and the baby product recalls have little to no coverage, but the products in question are still dangerous. Parents and care givers need to be proactive when it comes to researching baby products.
A reliable source to look go for information about infant products recalled is the United States Government. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission keeps consumers informed about issues with baby products on the agencies Web site, www.cpsc.gov. The agency keeps a list of press releases with detailed information about each recall linked from the main site.
While not boasting the credibility of the site run by a government agency, Baby Center.com has a searchable index of baby product recalls. The site is a popular destination for Moms and Moms to be. The product recall finder allows users to search recalls by category, approximate date of recall and keyword.
Besides being safe, Moms want only the best for new babies. One way to figure out how useful or durable a product will be is by reading reviews online by people who have purchased and used the items before. Most popular retailers allow a user to review a product. These reviews are unbiased because they are the opinions of individual users and not the retailer or product manufacturer. Many of the products sold at Babies R Us include reviews. Amazon is also another site that includes several reviews for baby products.
Remember, the reviews are opinions and what works great for one baby might not work for another. So, don't write off a product because of a bad review or two. Take time to read the reviews to see what the issues where and determine if the product is a fit.
