How to Reset a LitterMaid Cat Litter Box

Katri Marson
Once you get a LitterMaid automatic cat litter box you may wonder how you ever did without it. If it ever fails you may wonder how in the world you're going to live without it. My LitterMaid cat litter boxes have stood the test of time and then some, but like with anything problems can arise.

There are a few problems that you might experience with a LitterMaid cat box. For example, the box can cycle too often, it will not cycle at all and act completely dead or it can get stuck for seemingly no reason. For me the problem s have been very few and very far between, but I have experienced some over many years and learning how to reset the box has so far fixed every issue.

It is a fairly simple process that will take only a few seconds and requires no preparation. Whatever problem you may run across follow these few step to reset your LitterMaid cat box and get it in working order:

Step 1: Turn off the LitterMaid power switch, on the side of the unit, and unplug the unit from the wall outlet.

Step 2: Lift open the lid to where the cat litter waste is dumped.

Step 3: Facing the LitterMaid box, look both on the left and the right hand side, above the waste receptacle. Where the wall starts to curve and end you will find a small box ,with a couple wires attached, on each side of the LitterMaid. There will also be a metal strip piece on the side of each box. Some older boxes have only one reset box.

Step 4: With one finger press the metal strip down 7 times. Do this on each reset box on each side. You should hear a click noise each time you press it down. If your LitterMaid has only one reset box continue the steps the same leaving out the opposite side.

Step 5: Plug the LitterMaid box back into the wall and switch the power switch to on.

After you power the unit back on the rake should immediately cycle. Your box is now reset and should work properly.

Before performing a reset check under the metal strips you press for the reset; sometimes a small clump of cat litter can get stuck between the box and the metal strip. Something as simple as that can cause a problem. Brush the piece of litter from between the area and try powering on the box again. If it still does not run follow the steps for a reset.
