Materials
1 - 6" Styrofoam disk
8 - 1" Styrofoam Balls
4 - 1 ½" Styrofoam Balls
clock mechacnism kit (with numbers)
12 wooden shish kabob skewers
acrylic craft paints (any colors you want)
paintbrush
exacto knife
hot glue gun/glue sticks
decoupage glue
pencil
a sawtooth picture hanger.
Directions
Cover a table or flat work surface with newspaper or plastic and arrange your supplies on the table. You are going to start making the center of the retro wall clock first, using the 6" Styrofoam disk. Lay the styrofoam disk onto your work surface and place the clock mechacnism on the center of the foam disk. Trace around the mechacnism, then remove it and set it a side. Using the exacto knife, hollow out the area for the clock mechanism. Now take the pencil and on the front center, use it to make a hole for the clock hands.
Using the colors of your choice, paint the disk with acrylic paint on the front and the sides. Let the disk dry. Paint the 12 styrofoam balls in the colors you have chosen and let them dry. Now using the decoupage glue, coat the styrofoam disk and all of the styrofoam balls for your retro clock. Let them dry thoroughly.
Now using your colors of choice, paint all 12 of the wooden skewers and let them dry. While the wooden skewers are drying you can work on assembling your retro wall clock. Install the clock mechanism, following the manufacturers instructions. Now glue the clock numbers onto the face.
Once the wooden skewers have dried you can begin attaching the Styrofoam balls to the ends. Take a wooden skewer and use the flat end to push a hole, half way into each styrofoam ball. Now add a small amount of hot glue to the flat end of the wooden skewer and insert the skewer into the hole on a styrofoam ball. Continue this step until all of the wooden skewers have been glued to the styrofoam balls.
Next, take the skewers with the four largest styrofoam balls and insert them into the 12, 3, 6 and 9 positions on the side of the Styrofoam disk. Remove a skewer and add a small amount of hot glue to the end, then reinsert the wooden skewer. Continue this step on the remaining three, making sure to insert all of the skewers the same depth. Now finish adding the last 8 skewers in the remaining number positions, using the same procedure as before only pushing them in about 1" deeper than the last 4. You have finished the assembly of your retro wall clock.
Using hot glue attach the sawtooth picture hanger to the backside of the disk (centered near the top). Your fun and funky retro clock is finished. Now insert a battery and watch her tick!
