How to Reverse Aging Skin Around Eyes

Lyn Vaccaro
Reversing skin aging around the eyes seems almost impossible. The thin skin that surrounds the eyes seems to be the most vulnerable to the fine lines and wrinkles that are most noticeable in that area early in life -- well at least those of us that have them think it's too early for them right?

In the June 2011 issue of Life Extension a number of foods that include things like apple stem cells, blueberries and pomegranate to name a few are suggested as ways to reverse skin aging, especially around the eyes.

Soy's Cutaneous Benefits

For centuries the Asians have used soybeans as a staple. Foods like tofu, otherwise known as soybean curd, inherently contain components in it that provide good anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant benefits. Among these are phytoestrogens referred to as isoflavones. Used topically soy has shown it's ability to improve hyperpigmentation, elasticity as well has helping to retain the skin's moisture. In this Life Extension article, it's stated that studies have shown soy's capacity to stimulate the synthesis of collagen.

Apple Stems and Skin Renewal

It's crucial to the restoration of skin cells to have epidermal cells available. Without epidermal cells skin replacement cannot occur. As I read this article I found out that scientists have been ardently focused on a rare Swiss apple tree that bears a specific stem to it's apple. This apple has been found to stimulate human stem cell proliferation and also alleviated the aging qualities in the expression of genes as well. Scientists found that a decrease of 15% in the depth of wrinkles after just 4 weeks of an anti-wrinkle cream that provided these apple stems.

Pomegranate and Blueberries

Glycation, a process in which a sugar molecule bonds to proteins or lipids and is detrimental to the skin by causing aging has been shown in recent studies to be blocked by the constituents in blueberries and pomegranates called anthocyanins.

In this article it states that a clinically controlled study provided a preparation that contained 4% blueberry extract given to women aged 45 through 61. These ladies found noteworthy progress with thin skin, and cracking as well as improvement in deep wrinkles, fine lines, firmness, and general good skin tone.
