Many people are turning to freelance writing as a way to make money in these tough times. Freelance writing is a great option for a way to make money online. There is little to no overhead money involved, as long as you already have a computer and an Internet connection. Once you have decided that you want to become a freelance writer, you will need to start apply to freelance writing jobs. To apply for most freelance writing jobs, you will need a resume that is tailored to freelance writing. This is easy to do with the resume that you already have. All you will need to do it to rework your resume to focus it on freelance writing.

Step One

Rewrite your objective statement. You can simply state that you want to use the knowledge that you have to obtain a freelance writing position. There are other ways to reword this to fit your freelance writing needs when it comes to your resume. If you want to focus on Ebooks or press releases when it comes to your freelance writing, you will want to state it here.

Step Two

Add a section to the top of your resume that you have knowledge on and would like to write on when it comes to your freelance writing. You will want to make sure that the list that you provide is wide and varied, unless you are focusing on a specific niche for your writing. People who want to hire a freelance writer want to know about what areas that you hold an expertise in. You can also customize this list depending on what type of freelance writing job that you are applying for.

Step Three

List any places that you have published work. This is the area where you will show how much experience that you have in the freelance writing world. If you do not have any experience yet, that is ok. You can use sites like Associated Content and Ehow to show your writing until you have more experience.

Step Four

Mention your previous work experience outside of the freelance writing world to show that you have knowledge on the subject area. This is a great thing to do if you are a nurse and want to do medical writing. There are many non-freelance writing jobs that can help you to get your foot in the door for a writing position. Another example would be if you worked in a clothing store for many years. This would show that you have a lot of knowledge on the fashion industry.
