How to Make Rice Milk from Scratch

Devon Bruce
Making rice milk at home is very easy and it doesn't take that long. It also doesn't have any additives and its cheaper than buying it at the supermarket. Here is my recipe for making rice milk:

4 cups of water

½ cup of uncooked rice (I like using brown)

½ teaspoon of vanilla extract

Sugar, syrup, or other sweetener to taste (optional)

1. Combine rice, vanilla extract, sweetener and half of the water in a pot. Cook the rice until it is very soft (that usually takes around 45 minutes)

2. Put the cooked rice and the remaining 2 cups of water into a blender. Blend until smooth.

3. Pour the liquid through a cheese cloth. Allow the rice milk to cool, and then refrigerate.

Tips:

You can change the consistency of the rice milk by adding more or less water. Keep in mind that the less water you use, the harder it will be to produce milk.

This does not taste like rice milk that you get from the store. I strongly recommend adding a sweetener. I personally like to add syrup, pumpkin pie spice, almond extract, and a little walnut oil to make it creamier. You can get as creative as you want!
