Understanding Money
Understanding how money works, and then making it work for you, is the fundamental key to attain wealth. All the rest of these concepts will get you nowhere if you don't know how to use money to your advantage. Leveraging, saving for and creating capital, managing funds, and understanding how economies work are all necessary to understand if you intend to succeed financially. Do your homework. Read books. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of books out there on the basics of money. If you are too lazy to do your due diligence, you don't have the right mindset to become wealthy, and any efforts you make will be futile. There is no "get rich quick". Luckily for the laziest of us, that is a trait that can be overcome.
Knowing How to Sell
Selling will be a part of any form of wealth creation. Whether it's fast food, stocks, computer software, a haircut, an eBook, or anything else, you will eventually need to get people to give you their money in exchange for some product or service. Your job will ALWAYS involve some form of marketing or persuasion to entice someone to part with their hard earned cash. It might be in the form of selling your idea to the bank manager to give you a loan for start-up capital, making a You Tube video to get people onto your website so they'll buy affiliate products, or standing on the corner with a sign offering caricature portraits of your dog for 20 bucks. No matter what you choose to do, you will need to know how to sell to make money. Selling comes naturally to some people, but others need to learn through trial and error, or by studying persuasion and marketing techniques.
Making Plans and Creating Goals
You will never become rich by throwing things against the wall, hoping something will stick. You need to make a plan. Then you need to make specific goals with deadlines in order to make your plan work. After you've learned how to work with money, and decided on a specific type of business or wealth building process, you need to plan how you're going to achieve success. Start with the end in mind. How will success look when you've reached it? Imagine a detailed picture of what that looks like, and write it down. Next, write down where you are now, and what your resources are. Now you just create a path between the two, connecting beginning and end. This path will be marked by specific goals, both big and little, along the way to your ultimate destination. This process might take research, phone calls, appointments, and other activities. Planning is a necessary evil that must be done in order to succeed.
Efficient and Effective Productivity
Efficient and effective productivity is the backbone of being a success. You need to learn to make the best use of your time and resources, because both have specific limits. Time is your biggest limit, while other resources can be expanded to a certain degree. But using your resources in the most productive manner is an essential part of reaching your goals, and can't be taken lightly. I expand further on this concept in the article "Using the 80/20 Principle for Financial Success".
Taking Action
This is where the winners are separated from the losers in the game of success. You can make the most elaborate plans you can possibly design, and read and research till your eyes fall out, but you will get NOWHERE until you take action. There are people who do, and people to don't. Most don't. You will never create wealth and become rich, or succeed in anything else you want to do in your life, if you don't go out into the world and get things done. It's your choice. Nothing, or no one, is going to impel you to do the things necessary to implement your plans and ultimately succeed. Your motivation needs to come from within.
Learning from Mistakes
I am going to end with a bit of hope. No one makes it the first time, unless they are extremely lucky or amazingly brilliant. That gives us Average Joes a hint of a chance. Everyone makes mistakes, but the ones who succeed are the ones who learn something, brush themselves off, and give it another try. And then another if necessary. You succeed when you push through obstacles instead of giving up. It's a matter of trial and error, learning from those errors, and then moving on in the correct direction until you reach the point that you consider yourself a success.
