Many people with cats knows that there is always the chance that your home can start to smell like cat urine. It's not something that people would like their homes to smell like but you don't want to get rid of your pets either. If you have this smell in your home, it can be difficult to get rid of if you aren't sure what to do about it.

Start with your cat as your pet is the source of the problem. Some cats are urinating around the home because of a behavioral problem while others are doing it because of a medical problem. You have to stop this part of the problem first before the urine smell will go away. Take your pet to the vet and try to find out what the issue might be.

Make sure the litter box is clean. Sometimes cats won't go in an area that they find a bit unclean. If the litter box doesn't meet their standards, they will use other parts of the home. A cleaner box is more likely to be used. This traps the smells better than what your carpet will reducing the smells.

Use an ultraviolet light to get rid of the stains that are on the floors that you can't see. Many times cats revisit frequent spots. These might dry and smell by the time you come home making it hard to know where to go. This special light will show you where you need to scrub out the urine to get rid of the odor.

Get a cat urine removal product to help. Many of these also come with a repellent which is useful. They are good at getting out the smells and will leave a scent that your cat doesn't like too much. This can prevent future accidents and problems in that area.
