How to Get Rid of Clutter and Make an Impact

Hamson
Many have probably received a forwarded message with the title "Whose Hands." The message talks about how a basketball can cost nothing to someone but is worth millions of dollars when placed in Kobe's hands. A baseball bat may be absolutely meaningless to someone but is worth millions of dollars when held by Albert Pujols. The same goes for a soccer ball when kicked by David Beckham.

These names may seem to command so much power and influence that the common man can not relate to. However, one does not need celebrity to make an impact. All it takes is a willingness to see the big picture.

There are kids in the world that would use things that may be considered as clutter. The stuff you have stacked in your car garage because you may never use may be of so much worth in someone's hands. Those shoes that you last wore a few years ago and have accumulated dust can be used by an Impecunious individual. The old blankets and sweaters may just be what the orphan in Russia may need to endure the winter.

We live in a society which is inadvertently driven by the philosophy that says, "Whoever dies with the most toys wins." We feel we need to have a lot to have fulfillment in life. Sometimes it becomes hard to manage the junk because it increases at a very high rate. A few minutes of exposure to any kind of media is all it takes to notice how society is infiltrated with a barrage of commercials and advertisements of various products. More is better- is the message that is propagated. Clutter has even become a problem in many families. It can be hard to get rid of stuff that you paid for. Thus, many resort to keeping the stuff than getting rid of it. However, it can be easier to get rid of junk when you know that you are making a difference in someone's life. Instead of dumping clothes, shoes and other things as trash, you can choose to make a difference in someone's life- especially children in other parts of the world that are not so privileged. The greatest philosopher said, "Life does not consist of the abundance of material things."

Look into your closet and if you find stuff that you have not worn in a while, chances are that you do not need them. Everything on earth has to serve a purpose. If a garment is not serving the purpose it is supposed to, then perhaps it needs to be placed in the hands that can make it serve its purpose.

There are a lot of non-profit organizations that will help you get rid of your clutter while you make an impact in someone's life. With Christmas just around the corner, Samaritan Purse, a non-profit organization, usually collects shoes before Christmas to give to those who do not have shoes around the globe. They usually collect boxes of donated shoes from churches. Compassion International is also involved in collecting various items and delivering them to needy people. The Salvation Army is another organization that you can donate your excess possessions. These and many more organizations are listed in the phonebook and can be contacted. Some of them may even suggest picking up the items from your door step. Some may announce when they will be in town.

The same way that a simple idea can make you a fortune, is the same way something that is as ridiculous as clutter can make you a difference maker. You have not started to live until you make a difference in someone's life. One man's junk is another man's treasure. It all depends whose hands it's in.
