If you are struggling with a cough that won't go away, try these home remedies that are proven to work. No matter if you are feeling under the weather, have a scratchy voice, or just need to get that lurking cough to go away, these tips are for you!

A Hot Toddy

A Hot Toddy is my favorite remedy for a sore throat and cough. Not only is it soothing but the honey has healing properties which will soothe and heal your throat. The whiskey or rum will aid in helping you sleep as well as the herbal tea.

What you need:

Herbal Tea (Chamomile or Mint)

Whiskey or Rum

Honey

Directions:

The Hot Toddy is as easy to prepare as it is to have these home remedies on hand. When you are feeling under the weather, a hot toddy makes everything better. First brew your tea on the stove. Once it the water is steaming, pour into a tea cup or coffee cup. Add the herbal tea bag and let steep for up to five minutes. Now add in one to three teaspoons of whiskey or honey. For the sweetener add a dollop of honey. Stir and drink slowly.

Garlic

Garlic not only will help your cough, but if you are feeling badly, it will help you feel better. As I can't eat garlic straight, I always make a huge pot of soup and add at least 4-5 minced garlic cloves. Your throat will appreciate the garlic! If you don't want soup, just add the garlic into whatever you are fixing that night.

Vitamin C

What you need:

Vitamin C

Directions:

Vitamin C can be taken as a chewable or a pill. Either way, read the bottle for the maximum amount you can have daily. The Vitamin C will boost your immune system and help you feel better.

Coffee

Crazy but effective! Who said you can't have your daily dose of coffee and feel good about yourself? Enjoy a daily cup of hot java to help soothe your cough or sore throat.

What you need:

Coffee

Directions:

Drink a cup of hot coffee to help soothe your throat ache. This process can be done as often asneeded.

Humidifier

If you've never used a humidifier, don't worry. They are easy to use and usually have instructions on the back of the box. The humidifier will help loosen up any congestion in your throat. The humidifier will also help relieve your sore throat and is an effective home remedy for your cough.

Fluids

Drinking fluids is a home remedy that has been around for years. Simply, drinking fluids help keep our body hydrated as we fight the sickness. Drinks like water, warm tea, and salt water are all good in helping fight the cough.
