How to Get Rid of Flakes in My Hair

Getting rid of flakes in the hair has been a constant problem for many individuals. According to a study in The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, getting rid of the white flakes that appear in your hair requires that you treat the cause of the flakes and not the resulting flakes. This is best done with commercial shampoos that include ingredients meant to reduce abnormalities in the scalp that cause flaking and that continue to improve the scalp after initial use.

Amazingly, around 50 percent of people deal with varying degrees of scalp issues that can cause flaking. For most, the appearance of white flakes is not enough to cause concern, but there are many people who experience a large buildup of flakes that will eventually make their way into the hair and become very noticeable. While the flakes do not cause any pain, nor are they detrimental to your health, their appearance can be a huge cause for concern and embarrassment, much like hair thinning for some.

Hair products such as Head & Shoulders are specifically designed to reduce the appearance of flakes in your hair and improve the condition of your scalp at the same time. Because the source of the flakes is addressed, instead of just removing the flakes from your hair, the condition is not allowed to continue.

To date, the most promising active ingredient in dealing with flakes in hair is zinc pyrithione, which heals inflamed skin, eventually reducing the appearance of dandruff. The zinc ingredient can easily be added to commercial shampoo and applied topically to the hair and scalp, where it cleanses the skin of any scaly flakes and medicates the scalp at the same time. Regular use of medicated shampoos is recommended and entirely safe, working to prevent future buildup of the white flaking that you want to get rid of.
