How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies

TommiH
If there is one thing in this life that drives me insane, it's fruit flies. Once they come, it's like the never leave! I try and try to get rid of them by spraying them with bug sprays and they still go on in life, undefeated, in my house.

So enough is enough, the flies must go! Here's how:

Make sure you keep everything neat and tidy. This means wash all the dishes after using them, clean the sinks and drains, throw out all fruits that are over-ripened, keep your garbage covered and don't let it sit too long, remove all damp and dirty rags from the kitchen and don't allow them to sit in the laundry room, and keep your dirty laundry washed.

You will do wonders in keeping Fruit Flies away just by simply following the above ideas. But now you have to worry about the present infestation.

The most common trick in the book to get rid of Fruit Flies is the bowl trap. My grandmother did this a lot. All you will need is some fruit, fruity wine (optional), and clear plastic wrap.

First:

Make sure you have a large bowl. Skin some fruit, cut it up, and place it in the bowl. You can top the fruit off with a little fruity wine if you would like better results in attracting the Fruit Flies.

Second:

Take the clear plastic wrap and pull it very tight over top of your fruit filled bowl. Make sure that the plastic wrap is so tight that it can barely be seen. Now poke tiny holes into the wrap. Make sure that the holes are not too small and are not too large. (You want the Fruit Flies to go in and not come back out).

Third:
Sit back and watch the Fruit Flies get trapped. That's all to it. What you do with them from this point on is up to you. Use your imagination.

This one is for all the guys out there:

Another way to get rid of Fruit Flies on the spot is a hairdryer. That's right, I said a hairdryer. No you are not going to blow them away because it does not work. Instead, turn the hairdryer on full heat and aim the backend (where it sucks in air) and point it at hovering Fruit Flies. The hairdryer will suck them in and they won't come back out (alive that is).

WARNING: Using your mothers, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, etc...hairdryer could result in an unpleasant mood. I am not to be held liable for any injuries you may receive from any of them.

Good luck getting rid of your Fruit Flies!
