How to Get Rid of Greasy Hair

Oily hair is caused by over active sebaceous glands, these are the glands that produce oil to protect the skin. It can be highly frustrating as hair can look greasy and lank very quickly. There are a lot of things that you can do to help stop your hair from becoming greasy so quickly.

Washing:

Choose a shampoo specifically formulated for greasy hair, these contain ingredients that will stop your hair from becoming greasy so quickly and they will keep it looking fresher for longer. Also pick a conditioner that is designed for greasy hair aswell, these are lighter than normal conditioners and they will keep your hair soft and moisturised without dragging you hair down and making it look lank.

Make sure you use warm water when you are washing your hair, I know the temptation to use very hot water is there, but if you do, you will only strip your scalp of any oils and your glands will produce more to overcompensate.

Try not to wash your hair everyday, washing your hair everyday can strip the natural oils from your hair and cause the glands to produce more. If you definitely need to wash your hair everyday, make sure you choose a shampoo that is mild.

Dry shampoo can act as an alternative to washing your hair everyday, simply spray onto the roots, massage in for about one minute then brush out thoroughly.

Always wash your hands before you wash your hair, this may sound obvious but so many people don't do it! If you have dirty hands, whenever you touch your hair, you are transferring the dirt from your hands to your hair. Your fingers also contain oils, so avoid touching your scalp.

Some hair care companies have styling products that are designed for people with oily hair, but there are not many available. Look for lighter products such as sprays and gels, these will not drag your hair down. Things like pomades, waxes and serums will all give your hair an oily appearance and they are quite greasy.

Use a natural bristled brush and make sure you keep it clean. Simply squirt a little shampoo into a bowl and add some warm water, leave to stand for about 20 minutes then rinse thoroughly.
