How to Get Rid of Hiccups

C. O.
So you find yourself irritated that you can't get rid of your hiccups well today I'm going to share some of my knowledge and explain to you many different ways to stop this "pest". I'm going to start with the best technique that works for me to remove my hiccups, but before I do let me explain a little about what hiccups really are. To keep it simple hiccups occur when air released by the stomach is halted (stopped) which causes the diaphragm to tighten and pull this air into the lungs. The air continues to force it's way out but can't be released which causes the "hiccup" or bump sensation signaling the air has stopped. Hiccups are an involuntary action the body activates to protect itself just as the antibodies in our body protect us from diseases without our knowing or command to say so. Hiccups are commonly activated when hot food irritates the phrenic nerve close to the esophagus. Ok now that you have a little understanding on what hiccups are allow me to explain some common ways to get rid of your hiccups.

1.)My favorite way to get rid of hiccups is to eat a piece of bread simple as that. I usually eat one piece of bread and if that doesn't work I eat another piece and for me that works every time.

2.)Swallow a tablespoon of sugar. Just find any sugar you have around the house, get a spoon and dig in.

3.)Breath into a paper bag. Although I don't use this technique many people seem to use this to cure their case of hiccups so give it a try and see if it works.

4.)Hold your breath. Again I could never get this method to work out for me, but try it for yourself and see if you can stop your hiccups.

5.)Chug a glass of cold water in one drink. This technique is similar to holding your breath, but instead you have something going down while doing it.

6.)Get a glass of cold water and place a napkin on top of the glass and drink though it. My friend swears up and down that this works for him so basically your using the napkin to filter your water in a way making you hold your breath longer while consuming the water slower than usual.

There you go those are my six tricks to getting rid of your hiccups so go down the list and one by one and see if these methods work for you. If none of these methods work for you start back at step one and work your way back down again and hopefully by then your hiccups will be cured.
