How to Get Rid of Roaches Naturally

Organic Pest Control Methods

Lisa LaVergne
Contrary to popular belief, house roaches do not only occur from unsanitary conditions. It is possible to get house roaches in even the most sanitary homes. Kitchen roaches do commonly occur from food that is left out to attract them, but in certain climates cockroaches will be present no matter how much you clean.

While you can easily call in an exterminator to perform your cockroach removal, the chemicals that these companies use can be very harmful to your family and family pets. Even if you are considering do it yourself pest control with store bought cockroach removal products, you still face the risk of putting your family in danger, as these products also contain harmful chemicals as well.

If these chemicals cause you concern, or you simply want to use a household pest control method that is better for the environment, there are many organic pest control methods that can be used to help you control roaches and even kill some of the ones that are already present in your home. A roach infestation is not something to ignore, so if you have a problem with roaches you need to immediately start using these methods for getting rid of cockroaches naturally.

Possibly the best roach killer for getting rid of cockroaches naturally is Borax. Borax is a safe and natural ingredient that is often used as a laundry booster. In fact, you will most often find Borax in your laundry detergent aisle at the store. While a cockroach may be able to survive a nuclear attack, they can't survive a run in with Borax which causes them to become dehydrated and die. Placing a few small bowls of Borax in cabinets where house roaches have been seen will help in killing roaches by simply coming in contact with them.

Another method that is used for killing roaches is to mix equal parts of sugar and baking soda. This do it yourself pest control method is also considered one of the best roach killers for getting rid of cockroaches naturally. The sugar in the mix will attract the roaches to eat it, and the baking soda will cause intestinal issues for the roaches which will eventually kill them. You can sprinkle this mixture inside cabinets and around the house, or place it in small dishes around the house as well.

Diatomaceous Earth is another organic pest control method that will not only help in killing roaches, but is beneficial for getting rid of other house pests like fleas too. Diatomaceous Earth is all natural and works to kill roaches and other house pests in the same way as Borax, by causing them to become dehydrated which will eventually lead to their death.

Once you have figured out how to kill roaches by using one of the safe and natural methods, you may want to consider what you are going to use as cockroach control to keep them from coming back. There are some plants that work well to control roaches, and prevent a roach infestation from reoccurring.

Plants that you can use to control roaches include Catnip and Bay leaves. Roaches are highly put off by the smell of these plants, and will avoid areas where you have them placed. The easiest way to do this is to buy dry catnip and bay leaves and simply sprinkle it around the house, particularly focusing on cabinets or areas where you would commonly see roaches before you got rid of them all.

By using these do it yourself pest control methods for getting rid of cockroaches naturally, you are not only getting rid of a nuisance pest that can quickly get out of control in your home, but you are also helping to keep your family safe by using chemical free and organic methods. Household pest control does not have to cost a fortune and takes very little time to complete, so do yourself a favor and use these organic pest control methods to help protect your family and the environment.

when my brother had to stay with me for a couple of months because his apartment had a roach infestation i started seeing roaches in my house. i bombed the place, bought roach repelant at home depot and sprayed all the cabinets and behind the stove and refrigerator. after that i only saw a few so i bought borax and i sprinkled it in every cabinet, i lined entry ways and floorboards with it and have yet to see another roach and its been about 6 months since i did it. i usually sprinkle more every month or so.

Have you actually tried the borax before or any of the other things you have mentioned in the article? Has anyone? Do they really work? I don't have enough money to pay for an exterminator and don't reallly like the chemical smells of exterminators or bug spray and we have roaches in the home we have moved into. Would really like to know. Great article and thanks.
