How to Get Rid of Those Annoying Love Handles

Jason Ward
Love handles or Obliques are becoming more and more common these days especially among men (Although women get their fair share it looks worse on a guy) and most people just can't seem to get rid of them.

Note: Love handles are the chunks of fat stored around the abdomen particularly on the sides of the hips and lower back, a bad case scenario usually looks like you are wearing a tire around your tummy.

Now there is a way to get rid of them but it is not easy and takes a lot of determination and will most probably not be noticeable for a couple months.

The first and foremost important thing would have to be your diet, as most unwanted food and fat goes directly to those areas. Get on a program, whether it's just simple calorie counting, or an actual diet like Atkins or Raw food, there are a number of famous ones that are quite good and it should be your priority to start one of them. Stay away from fatty food or ones that are greasy, go easy on carbs and sugary things, try to eat a lot of protein and natural foods instead of processed garbage.

Another tip is to drink a lot of water as this will decrease the amount of water weight you have around your abs.

Don't expect to just start losing those love handles just because you started eating right, now you are going to have to start exercising faithfully and really pushing yourself if you want to achieve your goal. Cardio exercises are a must and you should ideally do a minimum of 30 minutes a day either jogging, cycling, Tae Bo, Boxing or some other form of it. Aside from cardio it is very important to also do abdominal workouts which I will name a few of later, weight training also helps replace fat with muscle and is a good addition to the workout. All in all I would recommend an average of 90 minutes daily to really see results faster.

The important thing to know is that unlike body building, targeting the specific area you want to lose fat in just doesn't work, that is why you need to do a whole bunch of different workouts in order to lose the fat.

What some people try to do sometimes is go on crash diets where they don't eat anything for a period of time or something similar to this, my advise would be to absolutely not do anything like this as the after affects could end up putting more weight on your body than you had before. There are no get thin quick options for love handles, you are going to have to put in the time and effort, but trust me it is worth it.

Some good Ab workouts:

Crunches

Sit-Ups

Side-Crunches

Standing Twists

Decline Crunch

Bench Crunch

Reverse Crunch

Hanging Leg Lift

Cross Crunch

Decline Twist
