Varicose veins are common in the aging population because of the long term stress they put on the legs and also loss of muscle tone. Varicose veins are blue veins that engorged because blood is trapped in one area and unable to move anywhere else. If your varicose veins are small then it's not dangerous and you don't need to worry about it much but if it's large and painful then you can visit your doctor and proceed from there. The reason why the blood is static in one area is because we stand on our feet all day long. Most people have a standing job and they stand on their feet all day long. Treatment includes medication and surgery. Surgery is a sure way to get rid of it. Surgery on the leg is not that dangerous comparing to other parts of the body. You should consider surgery on the legs if it's swelling and painful.
The doctor will also prescribe medications to help reduce the swelling of your veins. The reason why we have varicose veins is because we stand on our feet for long hours day after day. I know that some people have a standing job and that's the factor for the varicose veins. If you want to reduce your varicose veins you can try sitting more or switching to another job that requires less standing. You can try to sit during your break and put your foot up on a stool or something so that your veins have a chance to drain out of the leg area. When you position your leg for draining it has to be higher than your waist so that draining can occur. For example, you can sit and put your leg up on a small stool so that your legs are higher than your hip because if it's lower than your hip it won't drain at all due to gravity. This is an example of a home remedy you can do to reduce your varicose veins. Another thing that you can do is massaging your leg in an upward motion with therapeutic lotion like aloe vera or St. John Wort to help your blood return to the heart. You can also do leg exercises to help increase leg muscle tone so that blood can flow better to your heart. When you're standing at work you should try to life your calf to get some calf exercise and this can help blood to flow better.
