How to Get Rid of Windows Vista

If you want to upgrade to a new operating system (OS) or revert back to an older one, you will need to remove Vista before doing so. A computer must have at least one operating system on it to function properly so you will need another OS installation disc in order to correctly remove Vista. Whether you want to get rid of Vista due to compatibility issues with other software, you don't like the interface, or you simply want to get the latest system; you can do so in a few steps.

Insert the installation disc for the operating system that you want to replace Vista with into your computer's CD-ROM drive.

Click on the "Vista" logo in the lower left of the screen and select the small red "power button" icon. Choose "Restart" from the list of options. When prompted, press "any key" on the keyboard to boot from the installation CD.

Follow the on screen prompts such as "Next" and "Continue" until you reach the drive selection screen. Use the keyboard directional keys to scroll up and down. If you see multiple partitions under the heading "Partitions" or "Available drives" scroll to the first one and press "D" or "F" on your keyboard.

Select "OK" or "Erase Partition" in the pop up window that appears on the screen and wait for the progress bar to disappear. Repeat this process with each additional partition shown until you are left with one single drive labeled "C:/."

Use the keyboard directional keys to highlight the "C:/" and press "Enter." If prompted , select "NTFS (Quick Format") and press "Enter." Wait for the formatting progress bar to disappear.

Click on "Continue" or press "I" for install to begin installing the replacement operating system. Continue through the installation steps as prompted selecting "Next" or "Continue." Restart the computer when prompted and remove the installation CD to complete the process.
Connect an external hard drive to a USB port on your computer and copy files you want to save to the drive before proceeding.

Deleting or formatting a partition or drive will erase all data and files on the drive.

Note that according to Microsoft you can only uninstall Vista during the installation of another Windows version (or another operating system)

I still use OE7 and don't have the nerve to removed or add something that important! I think it's almost time for a new laptop so maybe Vista will be on it.
