How to Make the Right Decision when Purchasing an HD LCD TV or Monitor

How to Get the Most from Your Money

David Leavitt
With a combination of mass production and a drop of expendable money in people's wallets as the economy is in a recession, it has never been a better time to purchase a new high definition (HD) liquid crystal display (LCD) television.

Set your budget

Before you run out the door to purchase a new HD TV, you must first set your budget. It is way too easy to go into the store and be convinced into buying a pricier model than you would have normally picked yourself, especially when you are using a credit card to make the purchase. There is a reason that the economy is in a recession, and that is because people were irresponsible buying things they couldn't afford, such as houses. If you know your budget and stick to it, then you will have no problem paying for your new HD TV.

Pick out a size.

While picking out the size of an HD TV may sound like a silly thing to do, as you no doubt would like to purchase the biggest television you can afford, that is not the right decision for many reasons. First, while the biggest HD TV you see that you can buy in your budget may not be the best quality. Seeing as this is likely to be a large purchase and will be with it for years to come, it is important that you pick a good quality product. Second, have you given thought to where the HD TV is going to be placed? If it is going to be put inside of an entertainment center or other piece of furniture, then you must make sure it isn't too big or too heavy. LCD televisions look fantastic when mounted on a wall or hung over a fire place. Just make sure that an electrical outlet is nearby or can be installed, as you do not want to see wires hanging down the wall.

Review all of your options

After you have settled on the size of the HD TV you want to purchase, and you know where it is going to go in your home, it is important to review all of your options. While there may be several different brands and models of the same size, it can be confusing to accurately compare them. The most important thing to check is to make sure that it says it's HD. High Definition televisions provide superior picture quality than televisions that are not HD. Next, compare the resolution. The higher the number, the better. Many lower quality HD televisions are 720p. 1080p is superior, especially on larger screens. The number followed by p means the number of pixels in a square inch. The larger the number is, then the more detail it will have and thus better picture quality. The next thing you should look at is the other features, such as inputs and outputs for video games, computers, cable, stereo systems, and ECT.

Sit back and relax

Regardless of what brand you finally buy, you will be happy with the results. Your living room will look a whole lot sexier, and it will feel like there is more space in it as well. So sit back and relax.
