How to Rock the Denim on Denim Trend

If you thought the days of tossing on a jean jacket with your favorite pair of jeans were long gone, think again. Denim paired with denim is one of the hottest fashion trends for summer and it looks like it will carry over into the fall. The rules for wearing head-to-toe denim have changed. Fashion Rule #1: Choose Different Shades of Denim

If you are wearing dark denim jeans, than make sure to wear a light colored denim top. If your denim jeans are super faded than, choose a darker denim jacket. This rule for wearing denim on denim goes right along with rule number one. Today, denim fashion is all about variety. Think about soft chambray denim tops and heavier denim jeans, or a hip denim jacket with a vintage wash paired with classic dark hued denim jeans. The combinations are endless the rules are crystal clear. To rock the denim on denim trend, variety is crucial.

Fashion Rule #3: Denim Suits Are a Fashion No, No

The denim suit has not yet made a comeback (maybe next year), so for those of you who have held on to your 1970's denim pantsuit, keep it in the back of your closet at least for another year. Denim separates are a fashion yes, denim suits are still a fashion no.

If you want to really rock the denim on denim trend, try wearing a pair of skinny jeans with a loose fitting denim shirt. The different proportions are another way to add variety to what can otherwise be a bland ensemble. If your bottom is too big (like mine) to feel comfortable in skinny jeans try wearing a pair of boot-cut jeans with a clingy denim vest.
