How to Be Romantic Using Technology

Romance Takes on New Forms in the 21st Century

Tim Searles
Given that we are in the 21st century the Olde English way of being romantic is a thing of the past in some ways. Sure there are still the traditional methods - holding the door open for a lady, throw your coat over a puddle, etc. Chivalry will never die, neither will being a gentleman nor a lady. There are timeless ways of romanticism, but there are ways that you, with your cell phone, with your laptop, with your MP3 player, with your iTouch... can be romantic. If you want a creative way to be romantic, try some of these technical ideas...

Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation

It's not just for businesses anymore. If you have access to this software you can create a powerpoint presentation that will knock the socks off of your sweetheart. Use PowerPoint to illustrate the reasons why you love that person... do an animated slideshow of your history together... show videos if you have any available. PowerPoint does it all. Even if you've never used it, it doesn't take long to learn how to utilize the basics of it. If you don't have PowerPoint there are applicable substitutes - for example, on the Apple side there's a program called Keynote that works the same way.

Random text messaging

In your own cryptic way you can be romantic by using text messages. Just make sure that they're free for you to send and free for your sweetheart to receive; there's nothing romantic about an unexpected increase in either of your phone bills. You can also use this method to create your own codes for each other, insert pet names, and other short messages.

Give a "gift" to your sweetheart or update your status through Facebook

Facebook has these "gifts" that you can give anyone. They're including, but not limited to, roses, flowers, candy, ice cream, hamburgers, food, pictures, etc. You can send anyone pretty much anything. Send your sweetheart a free gift that they'll remember days later. Sure, it's not the real thing, but it's the thought that counts.

If you'd rather not give a gift, or you want to add to the romantic giving, update your Facebook status with a romantic message that either everyone can read or a private message that only your sweetheart can read. Write on your sweetheart's wall early in the morning wishing them a great day, tell that person you love them, or you can drop messages throughout the day when you have time.

Send an e-card

Technology these days could replace a number of companies if it ever acted correctly all the time. Companies like Hallmark are a paper-based company. With technology now I can send an e-card to a person much faster than I can mail them a card. I just have to choose a card, fill out some information, say when I want it sent, fill in an email address and off it goes. Some e-card providers require a membership fee, but there are still some free ones available. Surprise your sweetheart with an e-card letting them know you were thinking about them... or by putting a spicy message letting that special someone know you're looking forward to seeing them tonight.

Create a romantic video and post to YouTube

If you have the time and equipment, you can create a personalized video message for your sweetheart and post it to YouTube. All you'd need to do is send your sweetheart an email or text message saying what web address to go to... and once they hit play, there you are! The world is yours with video... you can sing, dance, talk, share, whatever you like. This might make a great anniversary gift or a wonderful gift to uplift your sweetheart's spirit.
