How to Make Root Beer

Tips for Preparing Homemade Root Beer

When I was in high school, we learned how to make a whole lot of things. Among them, we learned the art of making ice cream and we studied how to create gummy worms. We never learned how to make root beer, though. Recently, I ran into a buddy who knows to make root beer. I promptly forced him to relinquish this information by using the American Freedom of Information Act. In this article, I will discuss tips for making root beer.

Making root beer is all about preparation. Use an original, never before used bottle and make sure that your funnel is clean. Put your ingredients into the funnel is sure sequence. The first ingredient to add is a cup of cane sugar. If you like your root beer a little bit sweeter, then add in some extra. The sugar is the most important part of the root beer because it gives the drink its distinctive taste. You might not always master it, especially on the first time. With some practice, you can have a good mix of sugar, though.

To continue, you must pour exactly one-fourth teaspoon of powdered baker's yeast into your funnel. Make sure that you use only the most fresh yeast that you can find. When you insert this into the funnel, you must make sure to shake the funnel. By doing this, the yeast will be mixed with the sugar appropriately. This will also make sure that your mixture is concave in the bottom on the funnel. From here, you should put your funnel back onto the glass and add in a tablespoon of root beer extract, which will go right onto the dry sugar at the bottom of the glass. At this point, the extract should be sticking closely to the sugar. The sugar should help dissolve your root beer extract and get you ready for the process of making root beer.

From here, you have a nice little concoction in the bottom of your glass bottle. Fill your bottle to almost halfway full with fresh water. Generally, bottled water is the best thing to have because of its relatively low chlorine content. Once you have poured the water through the funnel, you will want to swirl the mixture in the bottom of the bottle to dissolve all of the different ingredients.

Now, you will use more water to fill the bottle all the way to the top. Leave only a small amount of space (maybe an inch) at the top of the bottle. You will want to screw the cap onto your bottle and turn the bottle upside down in order to dissolve all of the contents of the root beer.

From here, you are almost finished with your root beer making process. The already sealed temperature should be placed at room temperature for a few days until the concoction is ready. From here, move it to a refrigerator, where it should sit overnight. After this, you have some homemade root beer that is able to be enjoyed.
