What is an RSS feed:
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary and is a way to deliver frequently changing web content to subscribers of the feed. Many news sites, web logs and online publishers will syndicate their content into RSS to keep their feed subscribers updated whenever they add or change content on their site.
A RSS feed subscriber will need to have feed reader software installed on their computer to pick up the content being fed. My Yahoo offers one of many RSS readers available on the internet. When your RSS feed is active any new content you publish will be sent to your subscribers. They do not have to manually check your site on a daily basis.
How to set up your flickr.com feed:
You do not need to do anything to set up a feed, Flickr has this already done for you. For a user to subscribe to your feed the process is just as simple. A user may click on the link at the bottom right side of the page they wish to subscribe to and add it to their RSS reader. To add subscribers simply invite them to view your photos and subscribe to your feed. You can invite through e-mail, Twitter, blogs or sites like Facebook and My Space.
Another option that is available comes from clicking on any of your public photos. A large yellow box will appear that lets the viewer know that they are viewing feed content that they may wish to subscribe to. In this box at the end of the information about RSS is a clickable link. The link is "subscribe to the feed". All the viewer needs to do is click the link and they will automatically be subscribed to any future photos or videos you publicly post.
The key to your RSS feed is that photos or videos you post must be in a public file in your Flickr content. Private content can only be viewed by those that have been given your permission. Your subscribers must also have an RSS reader program installed to receive and then view your feeds.
