How to Make Sachet Scented Crochet Flowers

Crochet Project Tutorial

Arene Penelope
Craft makers who love flowers, incense, and crochet will enjoy the craft project of making scented crochet flowers. This simple crochet project is ideal for ages seven to adults and allows customization in the type of yarn, lining, and crochet hooks to use as well as the type of flowers to make. While the size of the scented crochet flowers vary based on the size of the crochet hook used, they have multiple purposes that include the following: hanging on bathroom/bedroom door knobs, placing in dresser drawers, placing next to sofa pillows, hanging on a car's inside rear view mirror, and hanging inside office workspaces. While crochet flowers have existed for many years, I have added my original idea for making them scented as described in this step-by-step tutorial.

Materials:
Felt, sheer, or silk fabric (amount depends on amount of crochet flowers you will make)
Crochet yarn of your choice
Crochet hook of any size
Marker or pen
Yarn and thread needle
Thread
Fabric Scissors
Plastic spoon
Sachet (scented powder)

Steps:

1. Use any crochet pattern of your choice to make two crochet flowers with the yarn and crochet hook of your choice. I recommend the simple two-step crochet flower instructions included in Twila Lenoir's crochet water bottle carrier pattern found on the Allfreecrafts.com website. Note: leave a 1 ½ foot long end before cutting the yarn of one of the flowers.

2. Use a marker or pen to outline one of the crochet flowers over a length of folded fabric.

3. Hand sew over the outline (making tight stitches), leaving a two-inch opening and then cut 1/2 cm around the outline.

4. Turn the fabric flower inside out to the right side and use a plastic spoon to pour sachet into the fabric flower's opening and hand-sew to seal the opening.

5. Place one crochet flower beneath the sachet-stuffed fabric flower and one above it. Then use a yarn needle to sew the two crochet flowers together using the 1 ½ foot long end hanging from one of the crochet flowers.

6. If you desire to hang your crochet flower, leave about a six inch long end at the top of the crochet flower.

Having witnessed the ease of making a scented crochet flower, you are ready to make many more. They are convenient for using up scrap yarn and fabric and make the perfect gifts. Scented crochet flowers will be loved for both providing incense and decoration.
