How to Be Safe when Searching for Online Coupons on the Internet

Samantha Miller
When you are online looking at coupons and trying to save money you want to be as safe as possible. One great thing about the newer computers is they have a built in antivirus protection. So most of the time when you look at these websites a little red warning: this site is corrupted or something to that effect will be under the title of the website. This is tip number one and the easiest one. There are a lot of people out there just waiting to hack your computer and the files. What they are looking for is passwords and the sites you visit so they can try to hack your bank account and credit cards. It is possible for people to do this however it's more difficult to do this now than it was a few years back. We have more technology and more security.

There are a couple of things I look for on a website especially if it requires a purchase like an online book of coupons may require shipping and handling charges or something like that. So what I look for is some form of secured site symbol and some have aBBB Online reliability symbol. These are both great symbols to see I prefer if the website accepts PayPal but not all of them do. That is what I like because if they accept PayPal and they charge me too much and it goes through then complaining to PayPal will fix the problem for you.

It is harder to get into trouble online looking for coupons than it is anything else so I don't see too much of a potential for viruses unless you click on every ad on their website. For some reason most banner ads have built in viruses and companies may not know this when they advertise. So if you come across a coupon banner ad its best to not click on it.

I would also say after each time you're ready to quit looking for coupons online click on your tools and then go to internet options and then click where it says to delete cookies, browsing history, and passwords. This clears everything you just did out of the search log so no one knows or can find what you were doing online and if you set up any passwords they are not findable this will save you a big headache later on if you get into a habit of doing this and can potentially save your identity from being stolen while searching for things like online coupons and online coupon discounts. Also installing a antivirus like AVG or other antivirus will help only if you actually use it. If you're looking for freebies or coupons online after deleting cookies and passwords from your computer I would recommend doing a antivirus scan as well just to be safer.
