All you need to make this particular toddler sail boat craft is a toilet paper roll, construction paper and glue or tape. If you don't have construction paper, don't worry you can have your toddler color plain white paper to use in the making of the boat. To make the project sturdier, something that is always a good idea when you are making a craft with a toddler, is using thin cardboard or index cards in the project.
There is very little cutting involved in this toddler craft but all the same it can be a good idea to get all or most of the cutting out of the way before you sit down and begin this craft with your toddler. Cut out two circles that will fit over the ends of the toilet paper rolls, using what ever color your toddler would like their sail boat to be, and about a 6 x 5 inch piece of color construction paper for the rest of the boat, which ever color your toddler would like. By encouraging your toddler to choose the colors used on the sail boat you are encouraging their creativity. Also cut out a right triangle shape for the sail of the boat, of course your toddler can choose which ever color they like best for the sail but white paper or a white index card are popular choices for the sail. Lastly cut a small tab at the bottom of the sail.
With your help your toddler just needs to glue the paper around the toilet paper roll, right away you'll see the shape of a boat and glue the circles on the ends of the roll. It is probably best if you glue the tab of the sail to the side of the boat. Lastly your toddler can add whatever else they want to their boat, such as circle shapes on the side of the boat for windows.
