Satin Heart-Shaped Picture Frame Wedding Album
Supplies:
2 yards of white satin
1 roll of batting
5 yards of 1" wide white gathered lace
2 sheets of white poster board
Glue gun and glue sticks
Ruler and tape measure
Scissors
Pink silk rosebud
Standard photo album
2- 12 inch pieces of thin white satin ribbon
Directions:
1. Draw and cut a heart that is approximately 5" x 7" from the poster board. Draw a medium heart in the center of this heart. Cut the center heart out. This is going to be your heart-shaped picture frame for the front of the album. You can download a free heart template at www.familyfun.go.com/printables/heart-pattern/-703484.
2. Measure across and down the photo album, then deduct one inch from each measurement. These will be the measurements for your rectangle pieces. Trace those measurements on the piece of poster board. You will need three of the rectangle pieces cut from the poster board. One will be used on the front of the album, the other two rectangles will go on the inside of the front and back cover of the album.
3. Lightly trace the heart and rectangle pieces on the back of the satin fabric with a pencil. Add a one inch border around each traced piece. Cut these pieces out from the fabric. Don't cut out the center of the heart picture frame. This step will be done when assembling the wedding album.
4. Roll out the batting, Place the heart and one rectangle poster board piece on the batting. Cut one exact rectangle and heart piece from the batting. Glue the heart piece of batting on the top of the heart poster board cutout. Cut out the center heart from the batting. Glue the rectangle piece of batting to front of one of the rectangle pieces.
5. Place the satin cutout heart on top of the batting side of the heart picture frame. Cut tiny clips around the edges of the satin heart. This will help the fabric to be smoothly glued onto the poster board heart. Glue fabric edges to the back of the poster board heart frame. Poke a hole in the front, center of the heart with the scissors. Cut a little of the center out, then cut tiny clips around the center heart. Glue fabric edges to the back of the frame. Glue the gathered lace around the back, edge of the picture frame heart. When gluing the lace around any of the pieces, glue the beginning of the lace under about an inch. This will give each piece a clean, professional look. Glue the end piece of lace on top of the beginning piece. Cut off excess lace. Glue the gathered lace around the center heart of the frame. Cut of excess lace.
6. Place the first satin rectangle over the rectangle that has the batting glued to the front. Cut tiny clips around the edge of the rectangle, then glue the fabric to the back of the poster board. Glue lace around the back edges of the rectangle poster board. Glue end piece to the beginning piece of lace. Cut off excess lace. Glue the remaining two satin pieces to the rectangle poster board pieces. Repeat this step for each rectangle.
7. Open the the photo album, then measure across the entire album and the sides. Add three inches to the top, bottom and side measurements. Measure and trace a piece of satin using these measurements and a tape measure. Cut this piece out.
8. Place the photo album centered on this piece of satin fabric. Close the album, then evenly place the fabric over the front and back of the album. Glue the side edges to the inside of the album. Make sure when the album opens and closes, the fabric is smooth across the back and front. Glue the top and bottom of the fabric piece to the inside of the album. I place a little glue to the binder then I push the fabric under the album binder with scissors. This helps secure edges, and makes it look professionally made. I also cut tiny clips at the corner edges for a better fit.
9. Starting on the inside, bottom of the album, glue the gathered lace around the photo album. Glue the end piece of lace to the top of the beginning piece. Trim off excess lace.
10. Glue a piece of satin ribbon to the middle edge of each side of the back and front of the album. Glue about two inches of the ribbon piece to each inside edge of the album. These ribbon pieces will be the ties to close the album shut.
11. For this step, use the poster board rectangles that don't have the batting. Place glue around the entire back edge of the first rectangle. Place this rectangle to inside, front of the album cover. Make sure it is centered and covers all the ribbon ties and fabric edges. Go around the edges to make sure it is securely glued. Repeat this step to the back, inside of the album cover.
12. Glue the rectangle that has the batting centered on the front of the wedding album.
13. Place glue around the top, and halfway down the edges of the heart frame. Glue this centered on the satin rectangle. The bottom was left unglued because this is where you will slide your picture into the heart frame.
14. Glue the rosebud to the top, center of the heart-shaped picture frame. Slide your favorite wedding photo into the frame.
