How to Save $208-$520 Per Year on Groceries

gr8voice
I am a Stay At Home Mom, so saving money is always a top priority. One of the biggest expenses we have is our grocery bill. And, it's also one of the easiest ways to save money. The easiest way to save money is to clip coupons. I'm not one of those professional coupon clippers, but I do save quite a bit on groceries just by clipping coupons. I can usually save between $4-$10 per week just by using coupons (that's $208-$520 per year)! And, NO Stores in my area double or triple coupons. So, just imagine how much you can save if your area offers double and triple coupon days!

A lot of people I know don't clip coupons. They say things like "I'm not going to waste my time to save 50 cents!" But, if you have even 6 coupons for 50 cents each you'll save $3 a week on your grocery bill. That's $156 over a year that you would have thrown in the trash, otherwise. Not to mention, it doesn't take a lot of time to do this. I spend approximately 1-2 hours per month clipping and organizing my coupons.

Here's how you do it:

~Get a newspaper subscription. We get Sundays only because it's cheaper and all I really want are the coupons and sale ads anyway.

~Find a friend or relative who doesn't use their coupons and ask if they would let you have them. For instance, I get my mom's coupons, and usually end up with twice the savings on each item

.~Participate in online coupon swaps. These are groups that allow members to exchange coupons with one another. All you pay is the stamp to trade your coupon. So, if I have a coupon for $1 off a brand of shampoo I don't use, I can find someone who needs that coupon and see if they have one I need, and we'll swap it out.

~Print coupons online for free. Websites like coolsavings.com, valpak.com, etc will allow you to look for coupons and print them at home. They work just like a regular coupon at the grocery store.

~Make your grocery list and attach your coupons to the list with a paperclip to ensure you remember to use them when you check out

.~Once a month or more, go through your coupons and check for ones that are about to expire. Try to use as many as possible to avoid losing money.

~Try to match up the coupon with a sale price to save the most money

These are just a few of the tips and tricks I've found to make the most of my grocery budget. I don't buy weird brands I've never heard of, and we still eat the same things. We just save a lot of money now because we are shopping smarter. So, if you are someone who doesn't want to waste time clipping coupons, think about if you would want to throw away $520 next year. Maybe you'll reconsider and start clipping coupons. It's a simple way to save quite a bit of money.

I think another great tip is to locate places offering rebates as well. I don't believe there has ever been a greater need for savings than there is today. Nice tips.
