How to Save $272 on Your Energy Bill

Jacob Horn
I get so sick and tired of articles entitled something along these lines, "Save $500 on your Energy Bill by doing these Five Simple Things." At one time I could not wait to read those articles as I envisioned my bank account having an additional $500 at the end of the year. After reading two or three of these I realized that any half way intelligent person already does most of the things in these articles and they are basically a waste of paper and space. So I decided to actually do something that would same me money on my energy bill. I do not run my heat despite that it is early December and it was 25 degrees last night. Not running your heat is one actual way to save big money on your electricity bill. You will never see this expert advice in those stupid aforementioned articles. In the next few minutes I want to outline a few advantages (in addition to saving money) of not running your heat in freezing weather.

The fridge has become obsolete. I can get a glass of water and just leave it out and it stays just as cold as it would in the fridge. The same can be said of meats and other foods that are normally refrigerated.

We all know how horrible it is to get in a freezing car early in the morning. It takes the heat five grueling minutes to warm up before you can feel your hands. When you don't run the heat in your home you do not have to deal with this terrible situation. I mean the car is the same temperature as your house. Sometimes it might even be warmer in the car if the sun is peaking through.

You do not have to worry about mice at all. I have always heard they like to find somewhere warm in the winter but they do not even consider my house.

There are obvious disadvantages to not running your heat. You are constantly cold but eventually you get used to it. I also believe I will get credit for a new illness. We all have all heard of 'walking pneumonia' but after this experiment I think there will be an illness termed 'living pneumonia' or 'eternal pneumonia.' At least I am saving a few dollars on my energy bill.
