How to Save a Buck on Baby Items

A Few Tips on Ways to Be Frugal While Raising a Baby

Once your new little bundle of joy enters the world, you may find your cash flow decreases. Now that all your hard earned cash is going towards necessities for the baby and such, you may want a few tips on how to squeeze the most out of a buck. I was never a cheap person, but I recently found myself being rather frugal when shopping for new clothes, diapers, toys & food for my 10 month old son. Most of the products on the market are not a necessity but a luxury, and honestly don't really make anything easier. So take a few minutes to read on about how you can save a few bucks when spending for your little one and how you can start a rainy day fund for a well deserved mommy.

1. Food - If your little one is eating solids, there are a lot of ways to prepare baby food without buying the expensive jars and containers of baby food. They may seem inexpensive when you buy a few, but add up the cost after a few months and it makes quite a difference. Making your own baby is not only easy but even healthier for your baby. Whatever you and your family are having that night, pop in a food mill or processor and in a few seconds you have your baby's gourmet meal. By doing this you are using the ingredients you already had for dinner, and eliminating the excess jars of baby food purchased.

If your baby is not eating solids yet or you are pregnant, a great way to save money on formula is to breastfeed. This is a personal choice for each and every woman, but it is truly the healthiest thing for you baby and it is absolutely free!

2. Diapers - Yes, in the beginning you want to buy the best products on the market for your little pumpkins bottom. High price does not always mean the best products though. Many discount retailers like Wal-Mart, Target, BJs & Costco have their own brand that is just as good as getting the job done. Many of these stores offer the same size box as the leading brands with more quantity at a much lower price. The same goes for wipes & other baby care products. Try the store brand. You will not be disappointed.

3. Toys - Each stage your baby grows into you will be unable to fight the urge to supply them with only the best toys. Toys are expensive, and babies only play with them until they grow out of them or get bored, whatever comes first. A great way to get your baby toys is by going to garage sales. Many times these are held by families that just want to unload the toys and you can even negotiate a price. When you take them home, scrub the toy with a little safe cleaner and your baby will never be the wiser. In a couple of months when you child grows out of the toys, you can do the same and put it up for sale. Many websites offer online auctions or for sale items. If you search by location, you can find great deals in your area. Sometimes there may even be a picture included in the ad.

Almost any baby product can be purchased used from a reputable seller. Check online website like craigslist.org or freecycle.org for baby items in you area. You may find car seats, bottles, toys and lots of other goodies for a great price and sometimes they are practically new.
