How to Save Your Cash when Shopping at Arts-and-Crafts Stores

M. Kaye Hash
Arts and crafts projects can be very rewarding but if you are not careful they can also be very expensive. It does not take long to walk into a hobby store and spend a large amount of money on one project.

There are many ways to not spend large amounts of money at arts and crafts stores. With a little know-how and planning ahead you can make your next arts and crafts project much less expensive.

Shop Year Round

Shop after holidays and at the end of seasons for the best bargains. This is a great way to save money, especially if you have space to store some of the items.

If you buy Christmas supplies after the holidays this year then next year you will be ready to create beautiful Christmas crafts without having to pay full price for Christmas craft supplies!

At the beginning of summer you can get great deals on spring craft supplies to use for the next year and occasionally you can even get some beginning of summer deals!

Clearance Aisles

Regularly check the sale aisle at your local hobby store or Wal-Mart. Craft clearance products can be found in these spots for deeply discounted prices. This is where items go when they didn't even sell at the end of season sale.

Look around at the clearance products and think of how you can use items that are not even for crafts. A box of cards could be reused as card stock in a scrapbook or a bag of buttons can make excellent embellishments if you make your own cards.

Coupons and Newsletters

If there is an arts and crafts store that you regularly visit then sign up for their newsletter. Newsletters and mailers have coupons just for those signed up and receiving a mailer often means that you are one of the first to know when a sale is coming up. Sometimes arts and crafts stores even have special sales only for those who signed up to receive mailers.

Stores That Don't Have Arts and Crafts

Think outside the box when you next have a project in mind. Garage sales can have cheap craft supplies and at auctions you may be able to pick up whole sets of craft supplies. Used clothing can be used for fabric to make things such as quilts or pillows.

There are many ways to save money at arts and crafts stores and make your next craft project easy on your wallet!

Great tips for saving money, but I seldom have to buy new craft supplies. It's amazing how much craft stuff we find in our abandoned storage-unit adventures!
