Christmas can be an expensive time of the year. You are buying lots of presents and lots of food. On top of the additional cost of presents and holiday treats most people end up having a large electric bill too. Not only does the large electric bill cost you lots of money but it is not the best thing for the environment either. Fortunately there are now some things you can do to cut down on your energy bill this Christmas season. If you want to know how to lower your energy bill this holiday season you will have to read on.

The first thing that you can do that is simple is to get a timer for your lights. Many people already have a timer for when they are on vacation so it will look like they are at home to keep burglars away. A timer is an inexpensive device you can get at many locations such as Wal-mart or at any hardware store. A timer will make sure you turn your lights off every night. Of course turning your lights on and off every night when it gets late yourself will help too.

Getting the right lights is going to be the biggest energy saver of all for your Christmas lights. LED lights use about a tenth of the power of traditional lights and last much longer too. If you already have lights and do not want to invest in a totally new set you can add in LED lights as you old lights burn out. Or you can add a strand or two at a time as you can afford it. Once the holidays are over you can usually find LED Christmas lights on sale for really low prices. You can also search online for the best deals. eBay has some great deals on LED lights especially if you are willing to wait for a shipment from Hong Kong or China.

The best thing to do is get solar powered rechargeable LED lights. These can be a bit more but over the course of there life they can save you lots of money. eBay is a great place to start looking for these. You can also find them other places online like amazon. If you use these you will not use any extra electricity.

These methods should help cut your energy bill this holiday season by a large amount. You do not have to limit there lights to the outside of your house either. You can use LED lights on a tree and they are safer because they do not create much heat. Starting a string of LED lights on your Christmas tree may be a perfect way to start using LED lights and saving.
