If you keep your vehicle in good shape, it will run better and cheaper. You are not going to get good gas mileage with an RV camper. It is heavy and will use a lot of gas. However, keeping the motor will help get the best gas mileage possible and hopefully save a little money. Also, be sure to check the pressure in your tires before leaving out each time. Eighty percent of all RV campers have at least one tire that is under-inflated, according to Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire and Recreational Vehicle Safety Education Foundation. This can affect your gas mileage, as well as being a safety hazard.
When you are choosing a campground, shop around in the area. You never know when you might find something cheaper than the first site you come across. Check in more remote areas. These campsites may have less amenities, but they may also save you a substantial sum of money. If you are only staying the night before a continuation of your travels, you might look for a very low cost or even free campsite for your RV camper. If you are just sleeping, paying for a full night in an RV park does not make sense. There are many places that might allow you to park your RV camper for free. These could include rest areas, government-run parks, grocery and other large stores, and maybe city or county parks. Be sure to check that it is OK with the local authorities before parking your RV camper for the night.
Traveling during off-peak seasons will also save you some money, in more ways than one. The fees for campsites will not be as high during this time of the year. Also, you will be able got get gas for your RV camper at a lower price. You can also do some research into fuel prices along your planned route of travel and see where the prices are lowest. Use these areas to full up your gas tank. It is also a good idea to go just a bit further down the road. Stopping at the first gas station you find may be more convenient, but you might find a better price just a minute or two down the road.
One of the most common reasons for traveling in an RV camper is to save money. And, if you can find more ways to save money, why would you not use them? Hopefully, these tips will help you save even more money that you and your family can spend on other things besides accommodations.
