How to Save Your Fuel and Gasoline Costs

G M
I think I can remember when I can fill my tank with $15.00 and I am good to go for like two weeks. This same amount of money now does not bring my tank to the half. Let us face it, gas prices are exponentially high and they are not getting cheaper. With a loss of a united front against the fuel tycoons we have nothing but to try to conserve fuel as much as possible. There are of course many guides out there who will tell you how to save your gas and I am not offering anything different. I am simply offering a simple way that has worked for me and proved successful. Before, I tell you what you need to do, let me divide the solution into two sections.
One would be the general part and the other would be the practical part.

General:
We all know that fuel cost depends on the supply and demand. Thus, due to the fact that our demand is high, very high so the fuel prices are extremely high. Let us forget for a second that maybe, just maybe, the fuel companies are not trying to scam us and exploit every dime out of our pockets. So, with demand high, the only possible answer is to lower our demand. We can do this by relying on other products or using natural resources. For example, we can start using natural gas, solar power, hybrid cars, hydrogen, etc. We can maybe just maybe, stop producing these humongous SUVs and stop buying them because they take way too much gas and are worsening the situation.

We can also start being more active and political in our protests against these companies that are just using us and no one is able to stop them. We need to have massive boycotts across the nation and not just for a day but for a week or even boycotting the major players such as Mobile or Exxon. We can not just keep whining about the gas prices and then go buy and SUV and keep filling gas every other day. We can also write to our lazy senators who can not seem to agree on anything anymore. We can write to our presidential candidates to make this an election issue. Whatever it is we decide to do, our action must be united and solid.

Practical Tips:
1- In order for you to save gas, you need to be a very sensible drive. Thus, speeding, sudden braking and acceleration is a big no no. Not only is it unsafe but it also wastes tremendous amount of gas.
2- While most of us think that highway driving is better it actually is not if you are going past 60 mph. Driving past 60 mph is wasting 15% per gallon for gas. You save more gas on the highway by maintaining speed and using the "cruise control"
3- When you are stopping at a light, put your car in neutral.
4- Also, try to avoid idling as much as possible because when you are idling you are going 0 mph so you are just simply wasting gas. So, if you are going to wait more than a minute then simply shut down your engine. Do not do that every stop light though !!
5- Do not put heavy items in your car because it can reduce your MPG.
6- Have a spoiler in the car because it improves the aerodynamics of the car when it is driving thus giving you a better MPG
7- Replace your air filter regularly and check your oxygen sensors.
8-Keep your tires properly inflated because it can improve your gas mileage by as much as 3 percent.
9- Drive slow and consistently. If you are coming near a red light, just take your foot off the gas pedal instead of slamming on the break. Do not do that though if there is a car right in front of you!
10- Do not fill gas at Shell, horrible MPG for some reason I can not explain but it is simply my experience.
11- Do not be fooled that Shell or BP or Mobile has better fuel than Citgo or Speedway or any other small station. It all comes from the same place.
12- You do not need High Octane gas unless you are driving a Mercedes or BMW or like a high maintenance sport car that has a V8 or V12.
13- Look for the best deal of gas prices. Yes even a penny will add up at the end of the year.
14- If you are buying a new car, check out its MPG on websites like fueleconomy.gov which gives you an accurate MPG from other drivers and it has also helpful information.
15- Go to Gasbuddy.com which tells you the cheapest place to find gas in your area and it even maps it for you.

I was told once that I was a hero in reading and not in writing. That was in sixth grade. I was told that because my writing was always "hors sujet" or was out of the subject and that I was too imaginative....  View profile

Simply raising fuel economy standards for passenger cars and light trucks to 33 miles per gallon would eliminate our oil imports from the Persian Gulf.

"We all know that fuel cost depends on the supply and demand."

This is not true. The high fuel costs are due to our own government scaring us into believing there is a shortage. The govt works with the the gas companies, supports the gas companies, and gives tax breaks to the gas companies. There are no price regulations or caps. The burden of paying any additional fees falls onto the taxpayer. The asking price is WHATEVER THEY WANT TO CHARGE. They just so happen to be getting away with jacking it up day after day ever since the damn Bush War started. Demand has gone down, how do you explain it now?
