How to Save Green by Going Green

Easy Green Tips to Saving Money

Going green does not need to cost you any more money, in fact, it can actually save you some money. You do not have to buy all of those fancy "green" products when you are just getting started out on your path to saving the Earth. Take baby steps and you will get to a greener you in no time. The best way to remember how to go green is to remember the three R's; reduce, reuse and recycle.

Reduce the amount of trash you are putting out there. This is not that hard. Reduce fits right in with both reuse and recycle. If you can not recycle it then reuse it, and vice versa. Instead of buying paper plates, paper napkins, Styrofoam cups, plastic silverware and the like, buy actual plates, cups, bowls and silverware. You can not be lazy if you want to go green! Wash the dishes instead of filling the landfills. And if you must get a dishwasher then make sure it is Energy Star rated! Also, don't use paper towels and paper napkins. Use cloth towels and napkins, they can be washed and reused, over and over again! Plus, when you set the table for dinner you will feel like you are eating out every night.

Recycle your papers, junk mail and magazines. If you have important papers with your name on them and do not need to save them anymore you might want to invest in a paper shredder, so that none of your important information gets out there. Once again, keep your eye out for that Energy Star rating so that you can make sure even your appliances are helping save the Earth by leaving less of a carbon footprint. There are recycling centers all over, and even some of the trash companies do recycling now, so check with your trash company or in the local yellow pages to find someplace to drop off your bags of recyclables. You can even recycle aluminum and some plastics.

Unplug your appliances when they are not in use. Turn off the lights when you are not in the room. This saves energy that is being wasted and it will save you on your electric bill too. Keep your heater, or air conditioner, set on the lowest possible also.

With just these few simple steps you will be on the right path to a greener you and a greener Earth! And you will be a good inspiration to all of the people around you.
