Coupons
The obvious way to save money on groceries is by clipping coupons. Grab your Sunday paper, and check out online coupon websites. SmartSource and RedPlum offer many of the coupons you'll find in your Sunday paper for free. In addition, store ads contain coupons, and many manufacturers offer coupons on their websites. Take a little time, do a little research, and you can find high-dollar coupons to help you save on food and hygiene products.
Buy in Bulk
Another way to save money on groceries is to buy in bulk. Sam's Club and Costco are two of the largest wholesale food clubs. You can buy everything from frozen foods, canned foods, condiments, and even dry goods at these stores. In addition, they do let you use coupons in certain cases.
Commissary
If you are a military member or military family member, always shop the Commissary if you have a military installation nearby. The Commissary is usually cheaper on the majority of items. Just make sure you comparison shop with local grocery stores to make sure you are getting the best price possible.
Farmer's Markets
Check your local farmer's markets for great deals on produce and home-canned goods. Most cities have farmer's markets every weekend or a particular weekend during the month. Check these events out by looking online or in your local newspaper.
Food Share Programs
There are many great food share programs across the country. Angel Food Ministries is a great example. These programs buy great, nutritious food in bulk and divide it amongst participants. There is a very low cost to participate in these programs, and sometimes the cost can be minimized or waived if you volunteer a certain number of hours for the program.
