How to Save Money when Buying a Used Car

Find a Used Car with a Limited Budget

Find a car with a blown motor or transmission. By doing this you can find a really nice car for a lot less money then you would normally pay for the same car.

Pay a mechanic to pick out and install a motor from a junkyard. Junkyards have many motors and transmissions and most are in decent condition. A mechanic is needed to pick out a motor because you won't be able to tell which motors are worth getting. Also by paying a mechanic to install a used motor, you are saving a lot of money.

Look online. Craigslist and eBay both sell and auction off cars. You would be surprised how many excellent deals are on these sites. The key is to be persistent and look for a long time till you find the hidden deal.

Get a local trader. Your city or county most likely has some kind of paper trader that comes out daily. People can advertise on here directly and you don't have to go through the dealership.

Always buy a car or truck from a person and not a dealership. People can sometimes be desperate to sell a car but you can guarantee used car dealers have to make money off each car to stay in business.

Advertise under the wanted ads on Craigslist. Craigslist is completely free and you can advertise for what type of car you're looking for. You can put the price you are willing to pay and the type of car you're looking for.
