How to Save Money During the Holidays

Denise
It happens to us every year. The bright lights, cheery Christmas songs and decorations drive us to spend, spend, spend. You can control your spending by just some simple planning. Here are some tips to take when you are going shopping this season.

Stay Within Your Budget
Before you go to the various stores, know what you are going to spend and stay within that budget. Also it would be wise to use actual cash. If you don't want to bring cash, use a debit card or bring your check book.
Buy your gifts, owe no one.

Do They Really Want Or Need It?
I don't think anybody should have to return a gift that they didn't like. If you don't know what a person wants, ask them. Tell them to give you a few "low cost" ideas. If your friends and family love you, they'll understand, especially during this economy.

Have A List
There will be a lot of distractions while you are shopping, just ignore them and stick to your list. The only exception is if you can't find a particular item anywhere. If that happens, you have to replace it with something else.

Check For Sales
Look on the Internet for comparisons and look in your daily newspaper.
Nothing hurts worse than buying something in one store, and finding out later you could have gotten it cheaper at another one.

Shop Online
I make most of my Christmas purchases online every year. If you don't have to go out, or the weather is bad, you don't have to endure the cold or fight traffic. Amazon and Walmart are really good places to shop. If you are a late gift buyer, you can have items shipped to you as fast as you want. You always want to be careful where you shop online. Stick with stores that you have purchased from before and trust. Beware of stores you have not heard of. The last you want to be is scammed. Check for reviews of the store by doing a simple Google search. Another thing to do is check the Better Business Bureau for information about the company.

Plan Ahead
Next year, whatever your finances will be, plan ahead and start saving
the amount that you want to spend. You can save a little at a time, especially if your finances are tight. Since you have a full ten to eleven months to save, that will be enough time. You may even buy ahead on popular items if you know that they won't be available closer to Christmas.
