OK, so a hair cut is not the biggest expense you have, but the cost of regular hair cuts does add up to a quite a chunk of change at the end of the year. Save money on hair cuts and still maintain a stylish hair cut with these tips.
Add Extensions to the Weeks
Most hair stylists recommended that you get a hair cut every six weeks, extend those weeks in-between hair cuts and just go in every seven to eight weeks for a fresh cut. As a general rule, when it's been a few weeks since your last hair cut and you have three bad hair days in a row, it's time to head back to the salon. Long hair styles are very forgiving and can be extended to nine or ten weeks. Depending on the exact cut and style you have, extending time between cuts can save you $50 or more per year.
Teaching Night Saves You Money
Many hair salon offer hair cuts on 'teaching nights' for a fraction of the regular price. You hair will be cut and styled by a trainee, but will be closely supervised by a professional. Call local salons or beauty academy to discover which hair salons offer the discounted services of a stylist-in-training.
More Bang for Your Buck
Does your hair style include bangs? Many salons will offer a free bang trim in-between regular cuts. If your salon does not offer this free service to clients, ask your hair stylist to give you a quick lesson on how to trim your own bangs.
If you plan to trim your own bangs, go ahead and invest in a good pair of sharp scissors to do the job. And use those sharp scissors to trim away split ends in-between hair cuts.
Cheat on Your Regular Hair Stylist
The hierarchy is alive and well within a hair styling salon, which is good news for the clients looking to save money. Book an appointment with the most senior hair stylist when you want to make a dramatic change to your cut and/or color, then book an appointment with a junior stylist for maintenance and regular hair cuts. The services of a junior stylist will cost less than those of a senior stylist, and if the junior stylist encounters any hair maintenance issues, the senior stylist will be nearby to answer questions.
