By putting your kitchen cabinets together yourself you can save money and afford better quality cabinets. Afraid it will take to long? Enlist the help of your friends and family and those cabinets will be together in no time.
-Finish Them Yourself
At big box hardware stores you can buy unfinished cabinetry for much less than the stained variety. Though it takes time, staining is a relatively easy project to do yourself. Not only will you save money this way, but it will give you the opportunity to get the exact finish you want.
-Use Coupons and Discounted Gift Cards
If you decide to buy pre-built cabinets from Lowe's or Home Depot, be sure you do everything possible to save money. For instance, you can get online and purchase a discounted gift cards for the store of your choice, then use a 10% off coupon to bring down the cost even more. Just doing this can save you 18% or more off of your purchase.
-Get New Doors
If your cabinetry is in good shape and is functional but you want an all new look, you might want to consider replacing only the cabinet doors. All you have to do is send in your measurements and select what style and color you want. By going this route, you will get the look of new cabinetry at about half the cost. Not to mention that cabinet doors can easily be installed yourself, saving you the cost of installation.
-Just Update
Even with all of these money saving ideas, working with what you have is always the cheaper solution. So before you go out and spend thousands of dollars, see if you can update your cabinets. Try painting the cabinets white, add some molding on the doors, and switch out the old hardware. Just these few things can completely change the look of your cabinets without the demolition, installation or excessive cost of new cabinetry.
If you put some effort into saving money on your kitchen cabinets, you can reduce the cost by thousands of dollars. Simply by using smart shopping techniques, working with what you have, or doing some work yourself, you can drastically reduce the cost of cabinets and still have a beautiful kitchen renovation.
