Bedding can be costly. Pillowcases are essential. Parents know that pillowcases soil quickly and need to be changed often. Children seem to just love their pillows and often carry them around from room to room. Pillowcases sometimes end up being changed daily.
The smartest and the best thing parents can do is to stock up on pillowcases especially. Having many ensures that your children's pillows will always have fresh cases on them, and waiting for them.
Pillowcases that are soiled can cause irritations on your child's face. Redness and rash may occur. Zits and blackheads may also. Dirt and bacteria from sweat, dirt, oil, and whatever else linger on pillowcases. Your child's face presses against them all night long. It is very important to always keep your children's pillowcases fresh to prevent this.
Making your own pillowcases is a great way to not only save money on pillowcases but also to tweak your style. When you choose your fabric choose the ones that you love the most. You can choose solid colors that match your child's sheet sets, or patterns that match your child's bedroom décor. Fabrics are available in all sorts of colors, textures, and prints! You can blend and you can mix and match. You could even combine two fabrics, one for each side of the pillowcase. You get the choice of the fabric you use. Once you've chosen it it's time to make the case.
Making a pillowcase is remarkably simple. First what you'll need to do is to get a needle and a spool of thread, or to start up that sewing machine. Next, measure your child's pillow. Then add two inches to the length, and to the width. Cut two pieces of fabric to those measurements. I recommend that you fold a large piece in half and then measure, mark and cut. This way the seen of the fold is one side of the case. You only then need to stitch the other side and the bottom. Otherwise, take both pieces and put them together with the pattern side facing in. Stitch the sides and bottom. Go to the top and hem across each separate side. Turn right side out and insert pillow! It's that easy and so much fun to do. Your child will have tons of brightly colored fashionable pillowcases in no time flat and you will save a lot of money in the meantime! Thanks for reading and take care!
