How to Save Money the Right Way on Your Auto Insurance Premium

Evan Nash
Most people at this time in our world are looking for ways to "cut back" or eliminate unnecessary frills from their pocketbooks. One thing that everyone is reevaluating is the cost of insurance, be that health or auto insurance and how we can save a dollar here or there. It may be the easy way out for you to cut back on your liability limit or your collision deductible, but these are ways that could potentially hurt you, what about ways you can save on your auto insurance premium that will not potentially cost you down the line?

Cutting down on your limits or raising your deductibles will give you the most obvious and immediate jump in price while filling out your online insurance quote. However, this a risk that you may end up regretting down the line when you are at fault for an accident and go into debt that you may never be able to pay back. Here are a few things that can save you money and not cause you potential heartache.

Do you have a teen driver on your policy? There are some auto insurance companies that will only look at this as a risk and will raise your premiums. However, some will give you a discount if that driver hasn't been in an accident or if they have taken a driver's education course.

Have you ever been in an accident? Some of the smaller auto insurance companies don't give many discounts because they can't spare the money, but many of the larger companies are now giving discounts to people who have clean driving records. Others actually give larger discounts to those who have been with them for a long time, but never had an accident. Don't assume you are getting this with your long-time insurer right now; it is worth it to call and ask.

Are you paying the same auto and home insurer? Almost every company that you use will give you a discount if you keep your home and auto insurance premiums with them. Additionally, you could get a discount if you have life insurance with that company as well.

The point is this; almost all companies are willing to give you a discount if you know what to ask for and what to look for. Don't assume that you have the lowest possible rate for the best possible coverage, shop around and ask questions!
