How to Save Money Scrapbooking

Rachel Soden
Scrapbooking can be a fun and fulfilling past time. However, with the cost of albums, paper, theme sets, embellishments, adhesive, punches, and so on, this can become a very expensive hobby. Here are a couple suggestions on how to save money scrapbooking.

-Coupons, Coupons, Coupons. Most of the major craft stores such as Hobby Lobby or Michaels Arts & Crafts have a weekly ad that contains coupons. Sign up to receive emails from them and you will receive coupons weekly. 40% off one item may not sound like much however if that one item is a Crop-A-Dile or other expensive item, that is quite a good deal.

-Clearance. Make sure to take a stroll down the clearance aisle. You may find good deals on scrapbook items. This is particularly true about holiday theme items. After a holiday is the best time to shop for these types of items. Stock up now for next year!

-Shop Online. You can locate many deals on the internet. You can purchase gently used scrapbooking tools off eBay. You can get good deals from sites such as Amazon.com or Scrapbook.com. One thing to watch out for though is the cost of shipping. You may find you aren't actually saving any money.

-Scrapbook Wholesale. There are many websites online that sell scrapbook supplies at a reduced rate.

-Get Creative. There are many ways you can save money if you get creative about it. If you mostly scrapbook mini albums, why not purchase chipboard from a supplier off eBay? Use a Crop-A-Dile to punch holes, put some binder rings on and you have a mini album. If you buy it in bulk of 100 sheets, you have 50 mini albums! That's quite a savings.

-Direct Sales. Another option is to sign up for a direct sales company. Companies such as MemoryWorks allow their consultants flexibility in how aggressive they want to be. You can sign up for these companies simply to receive the discount. Make sure to check the fine print. Some will have a minimum sales requirement. This option also allows you the option to make money scrapbooking!

-Stretch your supplies. Save your scraps and leftovers for use at a later date. You never know when it might be useful.

Scrapbooking can be an addicting hobby so if you are like me, you find ways to fund it. Many times it will amount to how creative you can be and how far you can make your existing supplies stretch.
