How to Save Money with a Used Laptop

It seems that a few months after you buy the newest, coolest laptop on the market, it has been replaced by something even better and your brand new laptop is not worth half what you originally purchased it for.

Unless you are a serious gamer or your job requires the most up to date computers on the market, more than likely you can purchase a used or refurbished computer for much less and it will still perform well beyond your needs. Used laptops and computers are usually still in good condition, especially if you look for one that is just at or a little over one year old.

When you decide to purchase a used or refurbished laptop or computer it is usually best to try and buy from the heavy gamers. These people need the newest computers with the new super power technology to keep their games running and looking their best. They are easily bored with their "old" computer after a year and will typically purchase a new laptop or computer before they have even sold their other one. So, when they put their "old" computer or laptop on eBay, craigslist or other sell engine it will be at a really great price.

Gamers will post their ads to sell their computers all over the internet. One of the best places to find ads is on their actual gaming sites. If you search on the internet for "gaming forums or blogs" you will find lots of places where gamers go to talk about games and their equipment. There should be a section for trading or selling, look in there for lots of ads from people wanting to get rid of their "old" laptops and computers they've been using for gaming.

If you happen to live in a college town, look in the paper or bulletin boards for students selling their laptops and computers. You might even find a company who has just updated all their computers in the office and wants to get rid of their old ones for really low cost to you.

When you finally decide that an older or refurbished computer will meet your needs there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you do not want to have a processor that is too slow. If you do find one that has a slow processor and you want to buy it, check the memory. If the computer has 512mb of memory or more it will speed up your computer some even if the processor is slow. Keep in mind, unless you are getting an outrageous deal, you don't want to go too old, and too slow, you'll just be disappointed with your purchase.

Finally, when you purchase your used or refurbished computer or laptop, make sure it is from a well know manufacturer. You don't want to buy cheap from an off brand computer name. In this case your computer happens to need some kind of servicing in the future, going through a well known manufacturer will help save you time, money and the headache.
