You probably know by now how weddings can become very expensive. All those little details, no matter how much effort you've gone through to help you save a lot, usually add up to a skyrocketing budget. One of the things that usually come with a high cost is the wedding cake. You want the perfect wedding cake, both you don't want to sell your kidney to get it either. So, in this guide, we are going to take a look at some ways you can save money on your wedding cake.
First things first, go for a smaller tiered cake. The main purpose anyway is for pictures and for guests to look at. For the display, a beautiful small tier cake should do and for your guests, you can always serve sheet cakes. A sheet cake can be just as beautiful as one of those cakes you see on TV. Just not as tall.
You may also have a fake tiered cake. Styrofoam can be used and decorated as a fake tier cake. Again, this is for pictures only. Serving your guests with sheet cakes should satisfy them and you can hide your display wedding cake afterwards so that no one will know.
You don't have to have a fancy topper. This is usually what makes the costs go higher too. You can choose decorations that will give your cake a personal touch by choosing things that reflects your relationship. Placing flowers at the top of the cake is also another option and you can choose the ones that match your bouquet along with the other decorations.
You can also ask one of your family members who knows how to bake to make your wedding cake for you. If you know how to bake yourself, you can do the wedding cake also. But remember, it is your day and it will be a busy one, so it could just lead to more stress. So, if there is someone in your family that can and is willing to do it, let them knock themselves out!
If you have an arts and crafts store in your area, find out if they have cake decorating classes. You can contact the teacher and ask her to make your wedding cake if they do have such classes. You can also ask her to point you to her best students. These students are more than willing to start earning on their newly learned skills. And most of them will give discounts since they are just starting out.
These are just a few ideas on how to save money when it comes to your wedding cake. I hope these ideas have helped some because I know how expensive a wedding cake can be!
