How to Save Money While Watching Baseball

David DeWitt
There is nothing like going to a baseball game. Hearing the roar of the crowd, cheering on the home team, biting into that hot dog or enjoying roasted peanuts. The American past time is enjoyed by nearly everyone but the cost of going to games seems to be increasing with each summer. Are there ways to save money and still enjoy a good baseball game? Here are a few tips to help save some green while enjoying America's favorite sport.

Look for online specials

Every baseball stadium has a website that advertises their upcoming schedule and the pricing specials on seats. This can be a great way to save money. Taking ten minutes to look at the website can save a significant amount of money. This can be especially true if ticket sales are down and there is a need to boost revenue for the ballpark. Be aware that buying the tickets online can carry additional charges per ticket.

Watch for ticket promotions

In Cincinnati, we are blessed with the Reds. Although, sometimes it feels more like a curse. There are a variety of avenues for getting less expensive seats that might be missed. Local radio stations will have a section of seats blocked out for their listeners and have special pricing for the seats. One station recently sold excellent seats for their listeners for $9.33 to go along with their station frequency 93.3. Listen for these kinds of specials and save some money on seats.

Another way to save in our area is through the local Sam's Club. Yes, discount baseball seats are available at Sam's. Shocking isn't it. Sam's Club offered for seats for select games for the price of two. Going with a few friends could make seeing a game extremely affordable.

Buy cheaper seats

One way to enjoy a game and save money is to buy cheaper seats. There are very few bad seats in most baseball stadiums and even the nosebleed seats are still pretty good. Taking a less expensive seat can allow people to still enjoy a game and save some money at the same time.

Avoid the snacks

The price of the ticket is not the only way ballparks make money. The concession stands also create an enormous amount of income for the stadiums. Skipping the snacks is a great way to save some money. Getting a drink and a hotdog can be fun but spending ten dollars to do it may not be so enjoyable. Oned way to avoid the snacks is to stop at a restaurant before or after the game.

Buy apparel elsewhere

Never buy team sportswear at the stadium. The price of team apparel is extremely high at the stadium and making the purchase there can be expensive. Buying team sportswear at sporting goods shops or discount stores can save large amounts of money. There are exceptions to the rule because there are times when apparel items are reduced for quick sale. Mostly this happens at the end of the season or when there are changes in designs.

Go as a group

Check into group tickets and go with a larger group of people. Going as a group can be more fun and it can save some money. Group sales insures the stadium of filling more seats. Most stadiums offer some significant specials on group ticket sales, especially, in advance. The larger the group the greater the savings.

Check out minor league teams

Another way to save some significant money is to check out the various minor league teams in the area. Often these games are as good, if not better, than some major league games. There is also a significant savings on the pricing of the seats. Baseball is baseball and a minor league game is better than no game at all.

Enjoying baseball is almost as American as apple pie. Watching a baseball game can be affordable with some research and some smart shopping tips. The next trip to the stadium can be both enjoyable and affordable.
