How to Save Money on Yogurt

Catherine Woods
For many people, yogurt is the perfect breakfast and a great snack. However, when you are eating two individual yogurts every day, you are spending $30 a month! Perhaps that does not sound like a lot of money, but over 10 years that is $3600. So why not find simple ways save money on your daily yogurt? Here are some easy ways to save money.

Buy Generic

If you typically buy individual name brand cups of yogurt, why not switch to generic. Many generic cups of yogurt cost $.15 less than their name brand counterpart. That simple switch could save you $9 a month. That is about 33% off! So give it a try and realize the savings.

Use Coupons

As great as generic yogurt is, there is something to be said for using coupons on name brand yogurt. Coupons for $1 off four cups of yogurt are very common and can knock up to half off the cost of your yogurt purchase. However, you have to be careful. Sometimes, even with coupons, the generic brand is still going to cost less. So make sure to do a little math before you clip that coupon.

Buy Large

Purchasing the large containers of yogurt can also be a great way to save money. If your family eats a large amount of yogurt, it only makes since to buy in bulk. A large container of yogurt only costs around $2, which is the same as four small cups of yogurt. If you use a coupon or buy the generic version, the savings are even greater. Just make sure your consumption does not increase with the size of the container, or you will eat away at your savings.

Find Manager's Specials

Finally, look for manager's specials on yogurt. These are basically markdowns that happen when the yogurt is getting close to its expiration date and the store is trying to sell the item quickly. If you can eat the yogurt before it will go bad, this can be a great way to save money. Not to mention most stores will allow you to use coupons on the discounted product, saving you even more.So with just a few simple changes to your normal shopping routine, you can save over half off the cost of your yogurt. By using coupons, buying in bulk and finding manager's specials, you can make yogurt an affordable item on your grocery list. If you use these money saving techniques over your life time, you literally save thousands of dollars. So give these ideas a try.
