In a recent article I mentioned how to cut back on daily luxuries by walking and riding a bike, growing our own food, and staying at home and eating with out families, but there are many more ways we can cut back on our daily luxuries to save money for the future. Read on to find out other ways to cut back on daily luxuries and still live the good life.

How to Cut Back on Daily Luxuries Tip #1

Use Less Water

Everyone enjoys a hot shower, or cool shower in the Summer, but a soak in the tub with bubbles can not only save water, therefore saving money, but it is a great way to relax and unwind after a long day at work. Whether you're stressed out or just plain tired from your long day, instead of jumping in the shower fill the tub with warm water and put your favorite bath beads or bubbles. This saves on water because you won't have the shower running constantly while your washing your hair and body. Saving water means saving money on your next water bill, which in turn means more money in your pocket.

Other ways to use less water are turning the water off while brushing your teeth. I am one of the guilty ones when it comes to letting the water run while brushing my teeth. Get in the habit of of only turning the water one when you need to rinse your mouth and teach your kids to do the same. Again, saving water means saving money.

Watch Movies at Home

We all love to go to the movies, especially when that awesome movie first comes out and we like to drive right to the movie theatre to see it right away. However, waiting until that great movie comes out on DVD or Cable T.V is the better option. Not only will you be saving money on the movie tickets, movie snacks, and drinks, you will also save money on gas by staying home and watching it. You can always rent the DVD at your local Video store or you can pay a small monthly fee to Netflix or Blockbuster Online and let them send the movies right to your mailbox.

Using Netflix or Blockbuster Online is a great idea. You pay a small monthly fee and pick out your movies right on their site. There are no late fees so you can keep the movies as long as you want.

Use Your Local Library

The library is a great place to get books and DVD's or Video's. All you need is a library card and you can check out free books and DVD's to watch at home. If you use the library, keep in mind that you cannot keep the books or videos as long as you want but you can renew them if you want to keep them a little while longer. You can renew at the library but you can also renew right over the phone. All they need is your library card number. I have renewed over the phone and it is easy. By using your local library, you will save even more money because you don't have to pay for them and you can save money on gas by renewing the books or videos over the phone. Just make sure to take them back when they are due because you will get charged a late fee if you don't renew them.

Drink at Home

Every once in a while my husband and I like to have a few drinks. Who doesn't? Instead of going to the bar for a drink, buy a six pack of your favorite beer or wine coolers and drink them at home. Drinking at bars or restaurants can get rather expensive. My husband and I went to one of our local casino's a few years ago and my husband ended up paying $4 for one can of beer! Way too expensive. So if you like to have a few drinks every once in a while, just buy a six pack or twelve pack of beer or whatever alcoholic drink you prefer and sit at home and relax.

Another way to save money and have a good time is to buy a six pack of your favorite beverage and go to a friends. You can invite them over to your house too. This way you are relaxing and having a good time with friends without paying the high prices at a bar or restaurant.

Try to save a few dollars every month. Open up a savings account where you can earn interest and put some away for a rainy day. Saving a little bit of extra money every week or month can add up and you will have emergency money if you need it in the long run.

Well Kelley, it wasn't a fact, it was my opinion.

Your facts are incorrect. According the Environmental Protection Agency: A full bath tub requires about 70 gallons of water, while taking a five-minute shower uses 10 to 25 gallons.
