Is it possible to save a cell phone that has been submerged in water?
Yes, it is possible to save it. Even if your cell phone has been completely submerged in water, you can remove it from the water, draw out the water using techniques outlined below and come out with a completely dry cell phone that works perfect and has no permanent damage.
Remove the cell phone From the water immediately.
Take the cell phone out of the water as soon as you notice that it has become submerged. Run to the nearest towel. You can save a wet cell phone if you work quickly.
Dry the cell phone complete with a towel.
Dry the outside of the cell phone with a towel. It does not matter if the towel is cloth or paper, either one will work. Remove the battery and any other removable parts. Dry the inside of it and all of the removable parts including the battery.
Submerge in a bag of dry (never cooked) rice.
Fill a plastic baggy with rice that is dry and has never been cooked. The rice will suck out the remaining water from your cell phone and absorb it. Place your cell phone, the battery and any other removable parts into the baggy filled with rice. Make sure that the battery is separate and not attached to the cell phone in any way. Seal the bag and place it in a cool dry place where it will be safe.
Leave the cell phone and parts in the baggy for at least twenty four hours, so that the rice has the time to draw out the water.
Dust off your cell phone and reconnect the battery.
The next day, you can remove your cell phone and battery from the rice. Dust everything off with a clean dry towel and put your cell phone back together with all of its separated parts. Your cell phone should work just like new.
Remember that prevention is the best way to save your cell phone from damage, but now you know how to save a wet cell phone if it does become submerged in water.
