Protecting your hair from the elements in winter should be an important part of your hair care routine. You may have spent months using hair growth vitamins or hair growth supplements. Do not ruin your progress by unknowingly not protecting the ends your beautiful hair. Here are three tips to help you retain your hair length.

Coats

Have you given the materials in your winter coat any thought? Check the label on your coat to see the material contents. Your coat may be a wool blend, or contain cotton with other fibers. Check the collar area, is that material smooth? Even if the material is smooth, if it is wool or cotton based it can eat away at your hair. If your coat has a zipper that connects to a hood, be sure that the teeth are all flush. The zipper needs to lay completely flat and not have any loose teeth may can pull out chunks of your hair.

Scarves

A great way to keep your hair from breaking with the contact between the coat and the brittle ends of your hair is silk or satin scarves. You can add a stylish scarf to cover the back of your collar and a few inches down the coat. This depends on how long your hair is. Another way to prevent hair breakage is by layering with scarves. Your Fall and Winter scarves can be lined on one side with silk or satin. This scarf can be worn daily to protect your hair from your coat or jacket.

Cotton scarves should be avoided at all costs .Cotton scarves over time will eat away at your hair line and the ends of your hair. Inexpensive scarves can be made from squares purchased at fabric stores. Scarves can be purchased on any budget at department stores and thrift stores. Look for content labels when making a purchase. Choose scarves in solids and prints that blend with your wardrobe. These scarves can also be worn in different ways in warmer months.

Being mindful of different ways to protect your hair can help you to retain the hair you have grown out this year. You may experience more broken and split ends if you continue to let your hair come into daily contact with your wool or cotton coat or jacket. You also could wear your hair up or in a silk or satin lined hat. Use these tips to achieve maximum results from your hair care routine.
